Hi its the guy from the wrecking yard.

I have a collection of air bags to set off when I want to entertain friends but I'm in the UK and over here its illegal to send them in the post. and I don't know what the customs inspectors would make of them but I doubt it would be good.

I'm sure if you went to you're nearest car wrecking yard they'd let you take a few. Just don't forget to take the plug that goes into the back of them as well, and remove it while you are transporting them.

Manufacturers stopped using sodium Azide in the early 90's so airbags with sodium azide in them are less common.

Manufaturers now use exotic chemical propellants which contain all sorts of different chemicals to make them much safer. The latest air bags especially side and curtain air bags are now starting to use just compressed inert gas at very high pressure.

I would not recommend trying to open an air bag charge without knowing if it contains unburned sodium azide, this stuff is very deadly.
