See Emily Play is a song written by Syd Barret and performed here by David Bowie. It is from the album Pin Ups in 1973.

Lyrics:

Emily tries but misunderstands
She's often inclined to borrow somebody's dreams 'til tomorrow

There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for May
See Emily play

Soon after dark Emily cries
Gazing at trees in sorrow hardly a sound 'til tomorrow

There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for May
See Emily play

Put on a gown that touches the ground
Float on a river for ever and ever
Emily

There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for May
See Emily play

  • FTW. Pinl Floyd !!

  • My name is Emily, & when I listen to this I'm able to fantasize that the gorgeous David Bowie is singing it to me, & only me<3

  • good cover imo

  • :DD BEAUTIFUL COVER DAVID :D!!!

    EPIC! (Y)

  • Best cover ever!

  • bowie sings this like a champ!

  • @joethulhuz Spot On! I'ts no shock to see on a Bowie vid, more people like Bowies version. IMO David Bowie is a musical genius, so I take Bowie doing a cover of this song as a massive thumbs up to Syd

  • I know that Bowie performed Arnold Layne with Gilmour and Co. Does anybody know if Bowie has performed this with Pink Floyd at all?

  • Bowie takes songs and reworks them artistically. "Lets Spend the Night Together" on this album is the same way: better than the Stones version......

  • I find Bowie's version superior because of the arrangements and the desperation in his voice. Any version of a song is going to have a particular tone, and I think Bowie's tone works better.
