@1alasdar1 Have your friends post to YouTube the "Texas version".... A different song altogether, with lyrics from the Sir Thomas Moore poem. YouTube won't allow me to post the link.
Google "Will You Come to The Bower" AND Carl Peterson for the tune played at San Jacinto.

@shocktower70 ... NO This is not the Battle of San Jacinto "Will You Come to The Bower" with Sir Thomas Moore's lyrics and a much different tune.
-
@1alasdar1 The Texas Army fife and drum will be playing some version of Come to the Bower Ap 16 2011 at the San Jacinto battle re-enactment.

@EveryTongueShallTell well when a song is made specifically for politcal purposes, it loses artistic merit, so irelands call is never gonna be top of the list, unless your a diehard rugby fan, and even then, im sure your reasons for the choice would be limited to rugby.

@MattiusIV That's what happened, people figured it was a more fitting choice, I like our national anthem but I don't like Ireland's Call, I know they sing it for the north but the words and tune are dreary after a while. Come To The Bower is a lovely tune with great lyrics.

@EveryTongueShallTell would have been great choice, but soldiers song has better back story so for me is more fitting national anthem.

This was nearly gonna be the national anthem of Ireland.

Will you come and awake our dear land from its slumber
And her fetters we will break, links that long have encumbered,
And the air will resound, with Hosanna to greet you,
On the shore will be found, gallant Irishmen to meet you.
