March 20,. 2010 - Following two days of rigorous games, high school teams from Henrico County, Va., Falls Church, Va., and Montvale, N.J. emerged as top winners in the 2010 FIRST Robotics Competition Virginia Regional.
The contest brought together 63 teams from throughout Virginia and from four other states to test their teamwork, alliance-building and engineering skills. The Virginia Regional, held at Virginia Commonwealth University's Stuart C. · Blue Cheese from Deep Run H.S., Henrico, Va.
· Vae Victus from George Mason H.S., Falls Church, Va.
· Pascack Pi-oneers from Pascack Valley Regional H.S. District, Montvale, N.J.
The runner-up alliance will have bragging rights as "regional finalists:"
· RoboHawks from Lloyd C. Bird H.S., Chesterfield, Va.
· Enginerds from Highland Springs H.S., Henrico, Va.
· Lambda Corp from Osbourn H.S., Manassas, Va.
In addition, the NASA Knights from New Horizons Regional Education Center H.S. in Hampton Virginia was named as winner of the Virginia Regional Chairman's Award, honoring the team that, in the judges' estimation, best represents a model for other teams to emulate, embodying the goals and mission of FIRST.
Team Blue Cheese from Deep Run High School in Henrico County was named winner of the Engineering Inspiration Award, celebrating outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers, both within their school as well as their community.
Also, judges cited two Rookie teams for honors for success in their first year's participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition:
· Rookie All Star - The Warriors from Nansemond River H.S., Suffolk, Va.
· Rookie Inspiration HHS Robotics from Harrisonburg H.S., Harrisonburg, Va.
