@davidf4301 "football" was the main term for ruby back in the day when it was more popular in england then soccer...
but soccer took off at unprecedented speed and has never looked back, so it claimed the main use of football... american football is close enough to rugby that it claimed the name due to its popularity over soccer... Same use of words in both instances, just different outcomes

@bluedragon636 to be honest i think it is just that people think american football shouldn't be called football since the hand are used more in that game so most people see no need to call football 'soccer' as it is really the only football
