  • MEH TOO!

  • lmao we're doing this dance for school xD

  • :ere is the traditional Tanko Bushi. Dance depicts a coal miner on Kyushu, Japam.

  • How come the singers of old japenese songs sound like they're dying?

  • I know this dance!!!!!!!!!!!! :D It's the dance of the coal miner. I attend the Berkeley, Concord, and Oakland obon odori every year...

  • Folks can just order/download the song from Amazon - Club Nisei Orchestra - Club Nisei - Japanese Music of Hawaii - "Tanko Bushi". The album also has various periodic Pop and Enka music from the 40-50s. For future reference: the best Enka singer is Misora Hibari "Queen of Enka", check the numerous videos on Youtube, too.

  • I actually found what I believe is this version of the recording on an old folk dance LP in the basement. It's called "Japanese Folk Dances" and is credited to Suzuki Masao and Itoh Kosuke. There's a number of LP 101b (J8OP-4233), but I don't know the company.

  • I got a book called "Easy Japanese Cookbook" by Emi Kazuko and there was a music CD in there with Tanko Bushi as one of the songs. I don't know if all the books would have the CD but you try looking for it..if you want to do Japanese dances and cooking (at the same time! :). Just kidding.

  • Reminds me of Karate. You have to get the kata just right

  • I think if you try it and get it right for the most part it has your own style. I did the shading eyes movement left hand first then right and I do the ending steps a bit different but I think if you practice enough you'll get it. Just have fun at first; that's what I did, then got the basics down :)
