I suggest, as a fellow agnostic, a good approach to dealing with religious people, is to focus on the shared values one might have. The idea is to appeal to their temporal reality, as difficult as that may be. With the exception of true psychopaths like Dick Cheney, or George Bush morons, you can succeed in awakening people to the evil of religious dogma, and fanaticism. "When you're a hammer everything looks like a nail." It's better to use ancient "dead religions" to make your point at first.
