We cannot understand the nature of salvation until we understand the nature of sin.

  • @riversonthemoon In a sense, you're right. However, the harm caused by unpunished sin would be infinite in value as it would be the compromising of the glory of God. If terrorists made an attempt on the life of our president and were caught, letting them off--unpunished--would in some sense validate their view of our president and/or government. In the same way, if God let sin go unpunished, He would validate our negative & rebellious view of Him... this is how His glory would be compromised.

  • I'm sorry, but that strikes me as an appalling notion of justice. You've redefined justice to be the most terrible tyranny I could think of. It boils down to might is right. Why should one's punishment be dependent on the status of the offended party, rather than the harm caused by the offense? I doubt if our court system operated in this manner that you would consider it just.

  • You have not sinned against some inferior prince or small village mayor. You have sinned against the Lord of Glory. Therefore, the only hope you have is to repent of your sin and cast yourself upon His mercy, which was provided through Christ's death on the cross.

  • The gravity of a sin is determined by the one against whom it is committed. I.e. lie to a common stranger--little to no adverse effect. Lie to a judge--you could be thrown in prison. Lie to a king, you could lose your head. The sin against God is infinitely greater than any sin against me and will be judged justly. God's justice flows from His infinite goodness. Therefore, perfect justice will be administered to all people. The problem is that every person's sin carries with it, infinite weight.

  • Wow. I didn't know you had your own ministry. Congratulations!

I must ask this. What was the punishment you gave your child for scaring the birds away? I'm sure it wasn't an eternal one. I'm sure you love your child and even if she remained defiant for the rest of her life, you wouldn't consider, even if you had omnipotence, the punishment that God apparently has in store for non-Christians.

Also, the way you describe sin suggests it has no bearing on morality. Swallowing? Really??
