Listen to Mahalia Jackson sing 'Amazing Grace' and then to Whitney Houston singing the same song. Plenty of energy in Whitney's version, bhava in Mahalia's.
The wonderful thing is that Dr. Ramanathan really knows how to draw out the bhava of this now rather obscure kriti. It's also unusual in that in some of his other recordings, he seems to like singing in shorter phrases, but here, he's often seen drawing out the phrases.
I am his student very happy to get this song. his varalandu, amba paradevathe are marvellous.bhagya

I'm new to Carnatic music. What is 'bhava'?
Thank you.

I learnt music from Dr. SR in 1988 for a few months before he passed away. It was an amazing experience. This man was simply great.
