Interesting trivia: He had it worked on in NYC a few years ago ( imagine the nerve of the guy who worked on it, it's probably the most valuable guitar in the world) by a great luthier and real nice fellow, Flip Scippio. He made the last tret play in tune, and it didnt work right that way for one of the Beatles tunes, ( possibly that fabled warbling Fadd9 intro to Hard Days NIght?) so Paul actually had him change it back! ,,,and that's NOT bullshit.

@DouggMacKenzie I think I've heard Paul say that he hasn't used his original Hofner since the mid 60's. He's now on his 3rd or 4th Hofner bass. Hofner custom makes them for Paul. But he has never donated any of the Hofner's to any museum. BTW Paul used a Rickenbacker bass from the mid 60's but switched back to an updated "McCartney Hofner" in the mid-80's.

u kno ur stuff
That's pure, unsweetened bullshit. His Hofner is not now, nor has it ever been in the Smithsonian. He tours with this bass, his original '63 model. THe only modification is that he took the pick guard off it.
Get your facts straight and cite your references.

@MegaObserver1 I'd like to see a citation for that. Actually, that IS his '63, with which he tours, according to his bass tech. I know he used the Ricky in the late '60s, for two years, but went back to the Hofner before the Beatles broke up. there is an entire website devoted to his instruments, which focuses mainly on his Hofners. The content is mostly provided by historians and Macca's bass techs.
