Technique for retrieving deeper targets in parks or areas with manicured lawns. Sorry, no old coin or relic found... this is just to demonstrate. I basically picked the first half decent sounding signal and filmed... I didn't want to film myself 100 times to get "a good one". I could have "planted" a coin like others have done for dramatic effect, but I wanted this to be real.... and the reality is that metal detecting is not that glamorous. Sure you can find some good stuff, but you're going to find a lot more trash. The beauty of it is that you never know whats going to be in the next hole.... and that's the thrill of the hunt.

  • nice plug

  • Thanks.... I always cut my plugs carefully to preserve the turf.

  • This is an excellent video. I wish all the newbies that don't know the proper way to retrieve a target would watch this.

  • That's exactly the reason I posted this video. It wasn't that long ago that I was a newbie and didn't have any good reference material to tell me how to do it. I want everyone who is new to the hobby to have good instructions. That way they can create a good opinion in the public's eye about metal detecting. All it takes is one person making a mess of a public park to ruin the reputation of all the people practicing proper technique.

  • Thank you for sharing this. Wonderful techniques! :-)

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this video! I'm brand new at this and got an Acer 250, so my dad and i could bond on something we both enjoy. This really helped. Any other tips? and can any body recommend detecting locations for coins such as pre-1964 coins like silver quarters, mercury dimes, and morgan dollars? I would die if i found a morgan dollar those are so cool.

  • The trouble is that it's not possible to pinpoint so accurately. If you prop a coin up at a 45 degree angle and then try and pinpoint it "blind" you will not be able to do it because it's not possible. Also this operation took too long. I would never try to dig things with that trowel because it would take forever if they were deep.

  • Very nice but i wouldn't hunt in a place with grass that nice! Mostly abandoned farmland!

  • the grass will die ,wait and see, this guy ruins the hobby for us who do dig nice holes!

  • Do you always probe? I have very practice in probing as I have been told I could damage the item I'm hunting for.

  • Excellent video to show the newbies and slobs how to retrieve a deep target with out destroying the grass.

  • The golf course in my town doesn't have turf that nice. Good vid though, thanks

  • what about useing a garden tool that is for tulip bulbs?

  • nice shoes

  • Rod Diameter 5/16 inch and you use epoxy to glue it in after it has been threaded
