De mon triste desplaisir, by Jean Richafort (c.1480-1547)

Mignarda duo, Donna Stewart, voice & Ron Andrico, lute, in a live performance at the First Congregational Church of Ithaca, New York, March 22nd, 2009. Our program, "The Tudors", is excerpted from a four-part lecture/recital series exploring the musical, social, religious, and political developments of the turbulent 118-year Tudor reign.

De mon triste desplaisir was basis for the well-known song, Pastime with good company, attributed to Henry VIII. Our arrangement of Richafort's chanson is based on the intabulation for solo lute by Francesco da Milano. Look for it on our next CD, to be released Autumn 2009.

Audio by Bob Spear.

  • Sweet, simple, and quite moving - you are good!

  • Thanks very much for your kind words, Joel. We appreciate knowing that our interpretation 'hit the mark' with someone who knows this music so well.

  • Just had to say what immense pleasure hearing you sing this wonderful piece gave to me. How I enjoyed your phrasing and the pureness of your voice! Listened many times now, and it still captivates me, with the austere beauty of the melody combined with your heavenly voice and accompaniment - a veritable treasure to find on YouTube!

  • Thanks so much for your very kind comments! It's one of our favorite songs, too. Perhaps you're on our mailing list and already know this - but we've just announced today the release of our newest CD, "Au pres de vous", which includes this lovely song.

  • Ah! Not on your mailing list - how do I do that?

Couldn't help thinking it *must have been a special favorite - how otherwise could you have invested so much to bring it to life so perfectly?

I'd be very grateful if you could let me have details for getting hold of your CD - I'm in the UK.

  • One of my favorites.

    I love it. 5 stars!

  • Very nice!

  • Beautiful!
