A short tutorial on how to play "You were meant for me" by jewel. It's the way I play it (correct ?) but works. I did one take of this at 6 am so its not perfect as far as the guitar but you will get the idea.

  • soo i think the picking pattern is

    5-3-2-1-(pause)-1-2-3-5

not sure how to write it the right way but i think you know what im saying =]

  • I'm not good at this either. I think its more of a 5232---132 for most of the cords.just make sure you thumb the base or 5th string and and lit it ring or hold it. on the E cord hit the base open E string or the top fat one. otherwise the picking is same. Good luck hope this helps

  • oops its 5232 ---123

  • I'm really glad it helped. Me and my GF did this song (kinda) open mic. Well I asked the band when they went on break. It turned out great. one guitar one singer. Fun stuff.

  • Sent ya the cords. Have fun!

  • Thank you so much.. you explain this really well.. thank you so much.. I am going to get my guitar now :)

  • @x3ashash I get 5 3 4 2 1 2 3 for the first 3 chords, but the Em is 6 342 123 watching her. She was totally frazzled and consumed by the media tornado by the time she did this morning show...probably got to bed @ 1 or 2 am...then has to play by herself at the crack of dawn. I loved her immediately...before I knew her 'story' after hearing Save Your Soul for the first time on the radio in Ohio. 97 X BAM! the future of rock n roll!

  • @pr3egl thanks! =]

  • @x3ashash Look at a YT vid by JewelVid a 1997 clip of her doing a Good Day Philadelphia. It's 402 and has appx 268K hits.

Jewel by herself and the angle is perfect: very close and you can see both hands and every chord.

That's if you want to try and replicate it perfectly the way Jewel plays it. It's a simple song, guitar wise...she's no Doyle Dykes, but a seasoned troubadour.

If you don't know it, find the history of Who will Save Your Soul? Intense.

  • cool !

Thanks a lot! :)
