IF YOU WANT TO DEBATE ABOUT THE TOPICS IN THIS VIDEO THERE ARE TWO CONDITIONS WHICH YOU MUST MEET:

1) Watch all three parts of this video. The particular one here is just part 2.

2) Read and follow the formal debating guidelines which I have posted on my profile page.

A response to the many misconceptions I've seen about the Islamic faith from the perspective of a non-Muslim American female.

This is also a response to the idea that Westerners, and Americans especially, have no desire to learn about anything to do with the Middle East. Most Americans are pretty stupid, I'll agree to that, but not all of us.

Basically, this video was made in the interest of reducing blanket stereotypes on both "sides" of current political and ideological conflicts.

  • the Prophet said "it does not suit" not "women must not show"

  • Alright, even more in favor of hijab being a person choice then. Thank you for the clarification. :)

  • There is so much wrong here I'm not sure where to start..

    The Hijab IS compulsory:

Abu Dawud 32:4092: Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: Asma bint Abu Bakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah while she was wearing thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her. He said: O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to her face and hands.

  • Mn, I think it's more relevant to say that some of the first Muslims claimed the hijab was compulsory - the Koran never did, it only calls for modest dress. As you should know, the Koran is considered the ultimate authority, with the hadith being changed and approved based upon what the Koran calls for. During the 6th century in Arabia, long clothing and a headscarf was considered 'modest', and thus as a cultural facet, that style stuck. In modern times, however, there are some imams who...

  • .. recommend dressing in what is considered a modest fashion for the area you live in. For example, 3/4 sleeve t-shirts and slacks in the United states.

  • Very good :) i understood the way how you convey the message ... keep up the good work !

  • I'm just trying to be fair about these things and to go against the lies which too many Westerners are told about Islam. :)

  • Muhammad's military exploits were largely offensive. Before he died, he sent out many threatening letters to other empires outside the Arabian peninsula.

  • It is somewhat ironic that you try to downplay the violence of Muhammad by comparing him to a military commander. He was supposed to be (according to Islam) a prophet first and foremost. You cannot find a single Judeo-Christian prophet who behaved as barbarously as he did. (This all, of course, is well beyond the fact that commanded, continued, barbarous, ruthless violence is prevalent throughout Islam).

  • Muhammad was a filthy man who bathed in water with blood and dead dogs in it, and had fleas. Here are some fun videos on the topic:

  • One night Sauda bint Zam'a the wife of the Prophet went out at 'Isha' time and she was a tall lady. 'Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes).

  • The following Hadith gives an idea as to the purpose of the Hijab. It is not of modesty. It is of concealment of identity, specifically when going to pee. If the face is not covered, there is no concealment of identity.

Bukhari V1B4N148: Narrated 'Aisha: The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. 'Umar used to say to the Prophet "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. [cont'd]
