Signs of a Dying Bird

it's quite clever how they disguise it, it's a bit like a defense mechanism so they don't seem weak however it's very sad. my cockatiel died from choking on a poppy seed, we saved her the first time but the second was during the night so we couldn't do anything and it was extremely distressing for us and our other bird :(

I know it's not a cocketiel, but my budgie started acting a bit strange, it got more vicious with the other one and wasn't as noisy... And one day it was just dead, maybe i missed the signs or it fooled me by pretending it was ok?
Either way it's very sad.

Have been there and seen this before. It's very sad. I'm sorry this bird was dying. But, if it helps someone, it's good. Watch for early signs. Ruffled feathers, sitting on bottom of cage, nasal discharge, change in droppings, etc. It's important to see an avian vet as early as possible if you see any of these signs.

u idiot help him out or go to the vet

My male cockatiel got violently ill very suddenly. One minute fine, one minute throwing up while he was perched on my knee.
He was at the vet's within 30 minutes. They did some tests, determined he had a bit of a gut bacteria problem, gave him some medicine and a shot (Baytrol I think it was called), kept him overnight and he recovered almost instantly. The Baytrol did the trick. Avian medicine has come a very long way from even 10 years ago. Birds can survive a lot if taken to vet asap.

Sorry for your loss.

@NykaAriadne EXCELLENT!

@atthefront1933 Dont talk bullshit, there was nothing hidden about that bird's desperate struggle! Did you take your bird to a certified avian vet, or at the very least, a bird savvy vet? How did you transport it? Did you follow the vet's guidance/advice to a T? To say taking any sick animal to a vet is [QUOTE pointless] is as good as saying ''The animal is not worth the bother''. Im sorry you lost your bird, but you seriously need an attitude adjustment.
-
shut up everyone, taking it to the vet is almost pointless, I had to take mine, and a few days later she died, because they DO hide it, and it was too sick. I think taking it to the vet made her die sooner because of the stress of being out of her environment

Poor little guy. Was that blood on his cheeck and beak?
Why is everyone assuming he didn't take this bird to the vet?? I read the entire video description and I didn't see him say that anywhere. Am I missing something, or are you all just jumping to horrible conclusions??

@CherubHorse .. WRONG!!!!!!! there has been great progress in avian medicine and birds CAN AND DO get well ... all the time..... the key?....... PAYING ATTENTION to the bird and educating yourself about birds and parrots. their needs, behaviors, everything! its true some dont make it, but i have seen heaps of bird(of all types) survive illness and injury just fine. if you have a bird, find a certified avian vet!
