ANCHOR:
Underprivileged kids living in New York City got a special treat yesterday. They were given a skateboarding master class from one of the world's best skaters, Andy Macdonald. Let's take a look...
STORY:
Here at riverside park about a dozen kids were put through their paces. Each of them received a free skateboard, helmet, pads and shoes as well as a very special teacher.
ANDY MACDONALD, PRO SKATEBOARDERr
"We're getting kids outside, not inside watching TV, playing video games you know."
After gearing up, lesson one... how to fall. Something very important in the world of extreme skateboarding. Lesson two... how to ride.
ANDY MACDONALD, PRO SKATEBOARDER
"We didn't even have anything like this, we're standing here in the middle of New York city in this great skateboard park. I had a dusty warehouse in Boston Massachusetts to skate some ramps, you know."
All this was organized by the Fresh Air Fund, an organization that aims to better the lives of inner city children through outdoor activities.
JULIE GREILSHEIMER, FRESH AIR FUND
"Well, don't tell Andy but I actually had more fun watching the kids watch him, than watching him because their eyes just light up."
After learning the basics, it was time for an obstacle course, to take their skating to a higher level
These kids aren't pros quite yet, but maybe one day they will follow in Andy's footsteps.
