Blue Cure 'Go Blue!' - Raising Awareness of Prostate Cancer
(with Blue Cure Founder Gabe Canales)
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Public Service Announcement:
This year 33 thousand American dads, husbands, sons and brother will lose their lives to prostate cancer.
It's the most commonly diagnosed 'male cancer' in America
Yet prostate cancer has low awareness. It's underreported, under funded and demands more attention.
At age 35 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. People ask me all the time how they can help.
Well, here's what you can do.... Go BLUE!
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month...So Wear Blue with a blue ribbon, a blue wristband, or blue neck tie, Network Blue -- change your facebook and twitter profile pics to a blue square and use hashtag #BlueCure on twitter and Speak BLUE -- Get people talking
You can be an advocate in your community! Ask your local sports team to have players wear a blue arm band or headband...ask your local newspaper to write about prostate cancer in blue ink,. Ask your elected officials to 'GO Blue' by publicly encouraging annual screenings. Ask the mayor to light City hall blue, ... let's ask the White House to 'GO BLUE' and light up BLUE one night this September!
Together anything is possible. Awareness will lead to action. And action will save lives.
Go Blue!

From Gabe Canales -
A little about the Blue Cure Foundation I'm launching:
Did you know prostate cancer is more common than breast cancer? Prostate cancer strikes 1 in 6 men, while breast cancer strikes 1 in 8 women. Last year (2010), an estimated 217,730 U.S. men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and 32,050 died of the disease, the most commonly diagnosed "male cancer."
When I was diagnosed last year at age 35, like most men I had little idea what it was. Now I do -- and I want to help others learn, too. So I've spoken across the country, written for The Huffington Post and the Houston Chronicle, met with top doctors and researchers and appeared in interviews to raise awareness and educate others.
Yes, I'm committed -- and I'm devoting the rest of my life to raising awareness and saving lives. That's why this summer (2011) I officially launched the Blue Cure Foundation, as the "blue" men's side of the "pink" campaign for women's breast cancer. Our goal is to raise awareness of prostate cancer, encourage annual screenings, promote healthier lifestyles for preventative measures and reach a younger generation.
Please join me in the fight to end prostate cancer!
