people dont use punches cause its harder to score with a punch in olympic sparring, it has to be a jarring blow= the opponent has to be like 3 ft distant from where you punch him... and not all the refs can correctly see the technique to judge it... hence wasting energy

this is all fine and dandy from a distance, but it seems like when they are up close, they don't know what to do. not to mention it LOOKS nice, but where are the punches?

punches are sometimes looked down apon and used as a last ditch move that's why they avoid it

really? but if they are effective, and you're too close for a kick, wouldn't it be better?

military taekwondo is much better for real combat

its called taekwondo..and its an Olympic sport for a reason.. their are specific rules. just like in any other sport.
