no quantum leap, I just implemented the crepuscular shader described in gpu gems III. Unfortunately, it still produces some masking artifacts (I'm not using the stencil buffer but only color values).

Also, this effect is very expensive to compute (though it works on half resolution only), because it samples a ray from every screen position to the (virtual) center of a light source.

  • Hi, just a little bit off-topic but how do you create and apply render target in Direct X? Thanks.

  • unfortunately, I cannot tell you how to do that in Dirext3D. All my appz are written with XNA, which is similar, but also different in many aspects.

  • wow, just coming back to this effect. amazing. i already posted but had to give another!

  • lol and once more I thank you very much

  • thank you all for your comments!

  • Man, PLEASE share this shader code? Pretty please?

  • it could also be fx composer. a free shader creator built to create shaders like these

  • Hi,

Thanks for pointing. This is pretty old and I already achieve this effect in my demo. But thanks nevertheless.

  • cgAddict:

Microsoft provides a migration guide which can clue you in on many of the differences between XNA/DX syntax and features. If you read that and go through the documentation you should have no problem figuring it out. Plenty of great online resources as well.

  • XNA

  • it's not a program it's a framework called XNA. You use it with C# (a programming language)

  • What's the name of this program?

    Someone tell me please =]

  • Hi,

I just finish implementing your sun shader and now move on to adding the god ray to it. However, I can't quite achieve the effect like yours. Can you tell which texture you use as the bitmap for the light source? Thanks.
