Wow! You were nowhere NEAR the top at the end of part 1. COOL!
I have always wondered what the top was/is like.

@kurtb8474 I think we camped to the east of South Butte and went up the south side. All day long, this fellow on a white horse, wearing a black hat with a big feather would tail us. We'd see him on ridges and hills just watching us. Later on that night we found out it was a guy named Caspar Kellogg and it was his land we crossed and were camping on. He wasn't real happy about that. It took us all day and we got back after dark. Thinking back...North Butte was a tougher climb.

Yeah...like I said, there was no road back then. If I recall we went up the south side. A fellow named Casper Kellogg tailed us on horse back all day. Later we found out we were camped on his land, he wasn't too happy about it. North Butte was a tougher climb, especially when you got to the chimney at the top.
After they abandon the missile base, we explored that a few times.
I drove up there a few times in the mid 90's to repair AC units on some of the buildings. Not too bad going up, but comming down sucks. the road looks to be in a little better shape these days. It was pretty crumbly back then.

@clintonsac The gentleman driving the truck is a telecom specialist at Yuba college. He's been driving up there for years .

I walked to the top of South Butte once with Boy Scout Troop 27 from Gridley. That was about 50 years ago, before the road and the tower. We climbed North Butte too.
We even had a guy named, Kurt B. in the troop. I think he's a farmer in Yuba City now...

@RoccoPirro Interesting! If that would have been me 50 years ago, then I would've been about 2 years old. LOL! My friend and I walked up that road back in '88... one night in December.

@hellcattiff87 HA! HA! No, I wasn't afraid because the guy driving the truck has driven up there hundreds of times. But, some of his other friends have freaked out. One was so scared that he wanted out of the truck about half way up.
