THE BATTLE OF CHERNOBYL dramatically chronicles the series of harrowing efforts to stop the nuclear chain reaction and prevent a second explosion, to "liquidate" the radioactivity, and to seal off the ruined reactor under a mammoth "sarcophagus." These nerve-racking events are recounted through newly available films, videos and photos taken in and around the plant, computer animation, and interviews with participants and eyewitnesses, many of whom were exposed to radiation, including government and military leaders, scientists, workers, journalists, doctors, and Pripyat refugees.

The consequences of this catastrophe continue today, with thousands of disabled survivors suffering from the "Chernobyl syndrome" of radiation-related illnesses, and the urgent need to replace the hastily-constructed and now crumbling sarcophagus over the still-contaminated reactor. As this remarkable film makes clear, THE BATTLE OF CHERNOBYL is far from over.

  • This footage is incredible! Where did you find it?

  • @CheeseNJackers I search documentaries often, and Chernobyl has always interested me. There are many others which may be found at a site like isohunt dot com... plenty of torrents on many subjects. I also search via youtube and if something I like pops up, I download for my collection through torrents.

  • Governments and their nuclear weapons are like children playing with loaded guns. It's just a matter of time before something really bad happens. But do they learn from their mistakes? NO.

  • @Arishtat I believe you misheard him slightly, as he said "new explosion", not nuclear. What would have happened was if the corium lava (molten graphite/uranium/pressure vessel components) reached the flooded basement the water would immediatley flash to steam, resulting in a huge steam explosion. I struggle to see how the explosion could be equal to several megatons but someone more educated on the subject could explain that better.

  • Why is this disaster known as Chernobyl Disaster ? when actually the city of Pripyat was most affected .....

  • That's it I'm installing S.T.A.L.K.E.R

  • @TunedCavityLasers you should try to find a doc called radiophobia its already on yt but there is no english subtitles its a shame cause its such a good documentary

  • @MrZazzles94 I didn't mishear, I just assumed he was talking about a nuclear explosion since he estimated it to be several megatons. Like you I don't think a steam explosion of that magnitude is possible.

  • @jackle910 on planet earth

  • @thebic4 either you are stupid, or just can't read. I said they didnt disclose any information, idiot. That MIGHT be why you never heard of it. Also, it was in the 50s and I doubt you r that old to even remember. And I never said anything about mass deaths. A lot of people became really sick but there weren't a lot of deaths. Look it up here on YouTube or anywhere online. Before you come at someone, first make sure you aren't an idiot and have AT LEAST looked into it. Second, make sure youre no

  • @DJSRF ok you now this how oh wait i dont remember mass deaths randomly happening
