Carlow (Through the window of Ireland)Words & Music by Anthony Doheny (www.anthonydoheny.com)
Lyrics
The Versailles of Ireland a dream was born but no one really knows
And in the Leinster drive the mock birds fly,
Watching from an Irish sky, through the window of our land.
And all I do is think of you. A great history known to few.
But the world needs to know, of Carlow
Carlow, Carlow, I'm looking through your window
Wishing I could be in Carlow.
Your legend walls are packed with all the myths and stories more untold.
And held beneath St Mullins fold,
They rest inside, rebellions, hearts and pride (under an Irish sky).
The King of Leinster poison throne.
Kavanagh's torso cursed alone
And from sixteen Hanrahan's home.
But all I do is think of you. A great history known to few.
But the world needs to know, of Carlow
Carlow, Carlow, your lovely rivers flow
I wish that I could be in Carlow.
Carlow your sport of kings, your fishing and golfing clings.
And I'd travel home right now if I could.
To rest a while in your quiet way, or wind the Blackstairs on a summer's day,
To view the beauty all around.
Or walk with you through famine walls, here more stories from the Georgian halls,
Carlow so deep inside you call, me home.
Carlow, Carlow, let your beat train crow
Wishing I could be, I wish that I could be in Carlow.

Dear Anthony. My name is Gerd, I'm from Germany and fell in love with Carlow this year. Would you mind if I used your song as background music to one of my videos? It is a fabulous song, I really love it and I have introduced it to my students.

Thanks for the great video, especially the neat pictures of Bagenalstown/Muinebheag featured at the beginning of this lovely clip,it makes me hungry for a time never to be recaptured by me,the walk to the swimming pool past Minch Nortons, and along the beautiful Barrow line, swimming in the river being able to see Mount Leinster on a clear day. Walks around Dunleckney.Trips into Carlow on special occasions. What a great childhood! Fond memeroies of a very special. place.

What a cracker of a photo presentation. I enjoyed it and it makes you open your eyes to see what a beautiful countryside and architecture you pass everyday, or in my case what I passed every day for the first 18 years of my life and only see at Christmas when I make it home
