I was an extra in this movie, and yes, they used special effects. Huge fans were set up and the local fire department sprayed their hoses into them. It was a beautiful sunny day, but they used smoke machines to make it appear cloudy.
If you see a handsome guy in an elevator, at the pool, or in the restaurant, it's me ;-)
I just this very second remembered the name of this movie from my childhood. Hurricane Irene brought me here. I was nine years old when this came out and visiting my Grandmother at her condo in Vero Beach, FL.! This cast is insane!
If they filmed this on location in Florida, they must have used special effects to create the hurricane that hits the area, plus news footage of previous hurricanes as well. I don't think that they went out into an actual hurricane and filmed it.
14 DaveHunter: since you said that it was filmed in your area, did they use special effects to create the hurricane scenes?
A movie with an all-star cast: Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie), Artle Johnson (Laugh-in) Elinor Donahue (Father Knows Best), Dorothy Malone (Peyton Place), Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams), Linda Cristal (The High Chapparal), Nedra Volz (Diff'rent Strokes), Ralph Bellamy (To Tell the Truth, Sunrise at Campbello), Macdonald Carey (Days of Our Lives), Pamela Hensley (Marcus Welby, MD). and Stuart Whitman (Cimmarron Strip). It's like Jeannie meets Constance Mc.Kenzie and Betty Anderson.
This is a perfect example of what happpened in Sri Lanka and what a natural disaster can happen at any moment during strong weather conditions, a giant sunami, like what happened in this movie. Some movies do predict the future
you just don't know when it will come or when it will happen.
This was filmed in my hometown of Panama City, FL. It was filmed on the PC Beach side of the county. The name of the condo is Pinacle Port and it's still there. Some of my friends were used as extras.
I remember this movie when I was 11. They aired it twice on KSTW channel 11 in the Sea-Tac metro area. I never missed any of it. Thanks for the post!!! Anyone know where I can get a crystal clear copy?

My other comment had to do with Barbara Eden in a hurricane; both in this movie and in I Dream of Jeannie. It's kind of deja vu; isn't it?
