Some cartoons just reek of being drawn by beatnicks and this is certainly one of them. If you are a baby boomer then chances are you caught this little gem more than once via your local TV station on some local Saturday morning kids show.
Sorry for the poor quality. This clip was taken straight from a VHS tape recorded one Saturday morning in 1987 and kept on a dusty shelf till now. This was shown as part of the "Dick Williams Magicland" show on Memphis television station WMC-TV5.
The old Paramount/Famous "Modern Madcap"movie was first shown on"Cartoonies!"
With Paul Winchell and his puppets on ABC TV in 1964. The voices of the rabbit and the turtle were performed by Jack Mercer and Gill Mack.

Actually, this was a Paramount "Noveltoon" (reissued as a "Harveytoon" for TV), originally released in August 1960, and of the last featuring the slightly redesigned "Tommy Tortoise" and "Moe Hare", who frequently co-starred in several Paramount cartoons during the '50s. Seymour Kneitel directed this one, with music by Winston Sharples. Jack Mercer and Gilbert Mack provide the voices...
