Questions for America Part 1 - Fat and Black

The point of this video is "What interest does Disney have in portraying black people as being not particularly gifted and, above all, fat?" At the same time, its white actors are portrayed as slim, healthy and quick-witted.


Yes, I know that many of you white folks prefer the term "Afro-American" but to me that is the same as when you call all Slavic Americans "Polaks". Not all black people originate from Africa.

You shouldn't be using imported television as a refrence for information about Americans. The people who produce those shows aren't trying to provide you with information about a country's people they're just trying to get you watching so they can sell advertisement slots at a higher price.

You're trying to utilize the socratic method with these videos, am i right?

you can't sweepingly categorize all nationalities. Not all blacks are fat, not all Poles are drunkards, not all Germans are Nazis, and not all Australians are chavs.

I heartily agree. My underlying question is/was/should have been; what interest do the media have in maintaining stereotypes?

I'm not fat but I am black. Black women (BW) tend to have more of an issue with weight than the men. But there are fat ppl of every race. It just so happens companies like Disney don't go out of their way to put beautiful BW on screen. Instead, it took Disney over half a century to produce a movie about a black princess (who lived in the Lousiana ghetto, but struck it rich by accidentally landing a prince). Black ppl in general are portrayed as stupid and fat on Disney shows unfortunately.

but African American are the fattest in USA, over 35% of black american are obese on 2009

obese hispanic 28.3% on 2009

obese white 25.2% on 2009

obese asian 9.6% on 2009

in general blacks would have fatter people but i don't know if disney gets fat black people on purpose, but then its the fat person's fault for not dieting or exercising unless they want to be fat

Are you serious, I am black and no i'm not fat, If you really want to know most off Americans that are fat are white people, You rarely rarely see a fat black guy sense we play a lot of sports.

Hahahah that's the biggest lie, in fact most black men in America are skinny, white men in America have a higher obesity problem, Most of us black guys play basketball. And what's wrong with being fat, Im skinny but i would love to have a little more weight

Yeah, if your're white, and you get fat, you have to check that little box that says "black" or "other". Most whites that get fat just check the "other". Pregnent women must check the "other" box untill they have the baby then they can check the "white". I was white till I was 30, (too much brew) so I would just check the "other" box, knowing I wasnt going to stop drinking. AMERICA, land of the free............and the band plays on.

americans of all colors are fat. but we have recently been surpassed as the fattest nation by......australia.
