j'aime le côté cryptique des paroles, les voix sont belles, la musique est belle, belle chanson voilà tout !

@cieltsd Not sure I'd put much weight in to the lyrics as a roadmap. I agree with those who think they're expressionist, rather than realistic.
The "war" could be anything; Afghanistan, existential angst, drug addiction, creative blocks, persecution, whatever. Who knows.
"from the rainwater well, deep as a secret nobody knows"

@ByronNotBrian That's AC (Carl) Newman on the right in the video; he's the driving force behind The New Pornographers. His solo stuff is really good, too.

I had to look up the "Management" songs to figure out the name of this song and the credits for the song say it's written by AC Newman who is also really good. The New Pornographers make this song sound awesome though.

I don't know why everyone keeps bringing up how the lyrics to this song are nonsensical. The words in Adventures In Solitude hint at if not outright talk about someone who has come back from war overseas and has had to carry along some demons along with him/her that just can't be shrugged off.

Some of their lyrics are quite silly, which is part of their charm. However, I think this song's lyrics are very emotional and just superb.

Come on you guys....are you listening to some of their lyrics: "Hands Together and If you Can't See My Mirrors". I'm sorry, no matter how you explain that these lyrics are deep, they are just rather silly. I think if you are viewing this lyrics as insightful or profound, that emotional response comes more from you than the bands lyrics. I compare their lyrics more to The Barenaked Ladies: fun, catchy or sometimes silly.

kudos to the movie "The Management" for including this in their soundtrack...damn beautiful....

@Nop514 I agree that the lyrics are not "deep" in a traditional sense- they're not meant to say anything specific. However, I feel like the New Pornographers' lyrics have an expressionistic edge: they're meant to fit together in a musical way and to incubate thought and emotion without literal meaning or story. I feel like most of their lyrics successfully aid the atmosphere and texture of their songs, which inspire (at least in me) powerful and insightful feelings. I consider that deep.
