Oh Man - this TOTALLY takes me back to Lake Hopatcong NJ when I was a kid. The lake was 10 miles long and a mile wide. The ice was perfect early in the season - we used to call it "lead ice" and it was teh PERFECT skating conditions! My dog's name was Sampson and he was an English Setter.

@Ccgirl4 I could skate for hours, oh and especially when it would start getting dusk but with the rays of the sunset hitting the ice...oh god, I want to cry :) One day I will skate out in the open among the mountains!
