In Dec. 2008, Duke University completed a 7-month project to upgrade and renovate portions of Few Quad, a dorm on Duke's West Campus. The amount of work performed should have taken about a year.
The primary focus of the renovations for the 116,000-square-foot dorm was to upgrade the interior infrastructure of the brown stone building. That meant adding new sprinkler systems and smoke detectors, increasing electrical wiring to allow for brighter hallways and rooms and completely gutting and rebuilding bathrooms, among other improvements. In May 2009, the last portion of renovations will be completed when workers put new earth-toned clay tiles onto the roof of the gothic building.
