At least one driver was killed and 16 NATO fuel trucks destroyed on the Pakistani side of the Chaman crossing with Afghanistan late on Sunday, Pakistani police said. (Aug. 31)
The art of war, which the Islamists are well schooled in says: "Try a thing, then wait and see the effect. If things are flling in your favor as a result, do nothing." That's what's been going on. They are getting concessions from the UN, USA, UK...basically everyone but France(go figure), there is no reason they would launch another major attack on the west @ this time. Look 4 years in the future.. after Obama. 9/11 basically won the whole war for the Islamists. We got here way late.
They're not accomplishing much, and more soliders and innocents are losing lives than actual terrorists. It's no longer worth it to have the kind of presence that we have over there.
Yes, exactly right. Its the 'lop off the head' strategy, and it has had some effect, but not near enough to end this war. If Pakistan cannot or will not clean up their own backyard, what choice will the US have but to do it for them? Maybe not now, but no amount of soft politics will stop the US after another 9/11 or worse happens again. That scenario will almost assuredly usher in general war in the entire region and Nations will fall. I truly hope the Pakistan Gov't understands the stakes.
Hey.. who the hell likes war? In case you werent born yet, the US invaded Afghanistan because of 9/11. Lets say the US follows your plea, packs up and goes home now. Do you really think Osama and Co. are going to leave us alone this time around? Or are they going to be more emboldened because they kicked the US and NATO ass? Wasnt it more than 5000 Americans killed on 9/11? It may be a bad idea to let them regroup and figure a way to kill 50,000-500,000 next time.
We do strike inside of Pakistan...with Predator drones. They are effective, but a 1/2 measure. Soon the #s of American dead will necessitate a new battle plan in that regard, but I see the comparison(Afghanistan - Vietnam) with respect to DMZs and safe havens.
Then the Taliban can move back in and restore "order". The stonings in the soccer stadiums, the burqas, the hospitals can be closed, women can be barred from working, girls from school, kites, music, and dancing can be banned as well as movies and TV. Yes the sooner we leave the sooner Afghanistan can revert to the 7th century...with machineguns. Your prefence has been noted, and obviously you like to vote down other peoples comments. That's unfortunate. Modernity isnt bad, killing for Allah is.
Good job brave people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier." - Rudyard Kipling

Can we PLEASE go home now? I don't understand what we're fighting for anymore. God, think of how many jobs all that money could create.
