@gaae2000 Not using afterburners also reduces the overall amount of fuel used. Full after burner takeoff's use a lot of fuel and require a KC to go with them to tank up. I think it sums up to about 45 minutes of cruise time burned in the AB's on takeoff.

@gaae2000 it all depends on the length of the airfield and how much weight they're carrying. They have to take off with enough room left to make an emergency landing and stop without rolling off the runway. So if they're holding external fuel tanks (like in the video), they often use afterburners to get in the air quickly; no need for burners if they're "slick."
