With no thanks (and ALL of the BLAME) this once vital airport is now merely a shadow of what it once was. We lost one of THE BEST airlines EVER TWA. I hate AA!
ah my dad is at JetBlue as an F/O on the A320 because of the furlough. He flew the 1011 and 747 as F/E, and the 727, 757/767, and AA MD-80 as F/O. He was always JFK based, except at AA, when he was at STL for the last year or so until 7/2003
My Dad retired back in 2005 on the 757. The flight I was referencing below was his retirement flight. However, he was domiciled at STL throughout the 1980s' while flying the 727, MD80, DC9 and 767 for TWA.
In the late 1990s' TWA opened a domicile at LAX, which my Dad flew out of until the AA merger when the STL pilot fence was setup.
watch the video of Lambert in 1981....bustling with TWA 727s, L1011, 707s, DC-9s all over the place (and from the same spot this video was taken). Now it's a desert with nothing. An unfortunate chapter in aviation history.
Used to be able to get a direct flight to just about anywhere in the US on TWA then AA killed most of them. They had the place mostly to themselves and opted to keep hubs at busy airports instead.

I enjoyed my trips through STL back in the day.

mrblujet: my dad's last TWA flight was OKC-STL, on the MD-80. He flew the 757 too, but got downgraded to the 80 after AA.
