This cat was born in Scottsville , Kentucky on October 17th , 1924 , he was named Lattie Harrison Moore after the family doctor who delivered him . At school he learned to play guitar , mandolin & bass . His first job was as a projectionist at a local cinema where he watched all the favourite movies with stars like Gene Autry & Bill Boyd.He also very much listened the stars of the Opry on the radio , artists like Hank , Roy Acuff & Ernest Tubb . His first recording was made for a small Indianapolis label ' Arrow ' or ' Ara ' , either way this record has not been found . It was called ' Hideaway Heart ' / ' Married Troubles ' and was cut in 1951 by the labels owner ' Tate Boland '. In 1952 he went to Nashville TN with a hope to record for the ' Bullet' label , but on arrival was directed over to a new label ' Speed ' , it was here that Lattie recorded his first release ' Juke Joint Johhny ' it is told that the song was recorded above the Buckley record shop on Union Street . Only Lattie and his lead guitar man know the song , and they had no drummer, so the sound engineer played the drums to fill out the sound on this recording! This recording are told/rumoured to be the first Rock & Roll rec. recorded in NashvilleTN ! Lattie then flipped over to King label where 6 singles were issued. In late 1956 he decided to cut another version of his "Juke Joint Johnny " as "Juke Box Johnnie" on the obscure ARC label. This was a real rocksteady Rockabilly version of the song, as you can see & listen here

  • Cool record. I like this version much better than "Juke Joint Johnny" on the Speed label.

  • @richhynes I can second that

    cheers L.S.M.

  • originaly titled "juke joint johnnie" , renamed "juke box johnnie" to appeal to the teenage rock and roll market, great record under any title, clear influence on wayne hancock among others......

  • Great Record!!
