  • hello, not that you could make a tutorial of this song? where you look at all the electric bass.

  • Wow, I haven't seen many people messing around with the fantasia solo in the beginning. I like it!

  • no, charles mingus' haitian fight song

  • lol

  • One of my all-time favorite songs.

What makes Mingus' solo here so great isn't the scale he uses or the complexity of what he plays (it's physically challenging/difficult to play esp. on an upright, but not very complex. he only plays outside of the scale I described before once in 11 minutes,at the end of the intro solo.) It's that he can play the same three or four notes a hundred thousand different ways. Listen to Mingus' phrasings and forget about the other bullshit. Just git it in yr soul.

  • First off, I don't understand how anyone can play this song on an upright, but not on an electric. Doesn't make sense to me.

Second, since there's so much confusion about the scale, here it is: it's a G blues scale with a minor sixth added (G, A#, B#, C#, D, Eb, F, G). he also sticks a major 2nd in there a couple places (A natural).

Nicely done, but could def. be better. Figureout acouplemore of Mingus' phrases and pay attention to the little things he does.

  • I think it is pretty bad ass. I couldnt do it on electric like that. Nice stuff. I am actually playing this song in my big band right now but hella fast. Keep it up.

  • thanx man,

haitian fight song is one of my fave mingus tunes.

been wonderin how to play this for a while.

to heck with all the nay sayers, sometimes ya gotta let it out.Good Tone, good heart.

    we all can't be Mingus!

  • ugh try to learn another scale... endless pentatonic gets very boring very quickly when you just play it through so fast.

my sdvice is to either slow down and try to play more melodic lines or (an even better suggestion), learn some new scales
