This shows a woodburner burning at an optimum rate. The primary vents are closed and only the top airwash is open. The stove is up to temperature and the gases from the log are combusting. At this stage it is possible to close down the airwash slightly and the logs and gases will still burn cleanly. The dancing blue flame above the logs is a good indication. If you burn your logs like this the glass will stay as clear as possible within the stoves design limitations and the firebricks will stay clean. There will be very little tar making it's way into the flue, which would cause problems at a later date. To burn like this you need seasoned logs and the stove needs to be up to a fairly hot operating temperature.

  • Very important to use good quality dry firewood

  • Great video, clearly shows different air flow!

On a similar matter, can anyone tell me how to connect a flue to a log burner? Do I need to use any kind of cement? Thanks
