Jahphet Landis started drumming at the age of 9 through an unfortunate event. When his family's apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn burned down, the hospitality of the church next door brought him into their walls and introduced him to the house band's music. He began attending each week and as his passion for live music grew, the band took him under their wings and taught him how to play the drums. Under the tutelage of percussionist Santiago Vasquez, he developed his style further and eventually joined Australian electro punk band The Death Set in 2008. Through several years of heavy touring, Jahphet built relationships and toured with the likes of Santigold, Spank Rock, Amanda Blank, Theophilus London, Jesse Boykins lll and Ninjasonik. He continues to play with The Death Set as they prepare to release their sophomore LP, Michel Poiccard, this Spring. We joined him one evening for a practice session to find out more about his craft.
