NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT PERSIAN CATS on DVD now.

The acclaimed fifth feature film from Bahman Ghobadi, the director of Half Moon and Turtles Can Fly opened the Certain Regard strand of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It combines musical performances with an edgy underground narrative and follows Iranian musicians Negar (Negar Shaghagi) and Ashkan (Ashkan Koshanejad) as they look for band members to play at a London concert plus the visa that allows them to leave totalitarian Tehran to do so.

NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT PERSIAN CATS features music from a wide range of genres including Iranian rap, jazz and electric blues. Executive produced by imprisoned Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi the film includes performances in English and Farsi.

For over 30 years the Iranian government has banned certain types of music compelling many fans of Iranian alternative music and western bands to go underground.

The band that features in the film called Take It Easy Hospital now live in London having fled their homeland.

Ashkan, the male lead in the film, was imprisoned in Iran for 21 days for performing in a rock concert.

  • It´s not about Islam. It´s about control. In North Korea there is no islam, and the government also controls all aspects of society. It´s about totalitarism vs democracy. Fanatism vs Tolerance. When you insult people, you don´t make them understand, only pushes them away. In Venezuela we are walking down the same path that took Iran there, and islam is not an issue here.

You should say FUCK dictators, FUCK repression. FUCK the people that try to isolate an entire country from the world

  • If someone took my dog I'd shoot the crap out of them.

  • This people can do so many things. It's a shame they can't show it. really it's a shame

  • If only Iranians had the freedom to make movies with out the pressure of the government they could make beautiful movies :) proud to be persian

  • Ridiculous this Iranian's regime . Shameful!!!!l, However it sounds like an Mossad's propaganda when it's about Iran... Be careful guys . Israel like and loves Palestinians and Iranian's dogs. A bon entendeur salut!1

  • Dose anyone knows how can I get the DVD??Please let me know.

  • I personally hate Iranian Cinema , but I loved this movie. I don't think neither the pre nor post-revolution Iranian cinema is good , specially the post-revolution which uses misery as their main theme no matter what.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE because the rock bands that play here kick ass. I don't like Rap music but even the Rap in this movie kicks ass. These guys show that Iranians can play great music even under a F**ed up dictatorship, unlike the garbage produced by the Iranians in LA.

  • Just saw this on kookicá and I suppose I'm now a lemming, because I thought it was freakin' brilliant. But then, we "lemmings" seem to have actually understood what the movie was ABOUT.
