Here is a tune I did for http://www.bobbysbackingtracks.com. This is Miles Davis' tune "All Blues". Just an awesome tune!! Swing in 3/4! Great way to get the swing chops out of the closet and dust them off! I really need to start playing more swing!

I have a feeling I will get raked over the coals for this one!! It is pretty far out of the box of the original!! WAY LEFT of the original. Traditional Jazz cats will let me have it pretty good on this!

Hope you enjoy!

Here is a list of my gear:

Drums: Sonor Force 2007 in Natural Lacquer.
Sizes: 8x7, 10x8, 12x9, 14x11, 16x16 Floor, 22x17.5 Kick.

Sticks: Vic Firth American Heritage (maple) 5A

Heads: Remo clear Ambassadors on the tops of all the toms and bottoms of all toms except the 8" and 10" toms. Clear Diplomats on the bottoms of the 8" and 10" toms. Coated Ambassador on the snare with an ambassador medium snare side hazy on the bottom. Clear Powerstroke 3 on the kick drum.

Microphones: Audix Fusion Series Drum Mics

I am very serious about the art of drumming and choose to use the gear that I consider to be the BEST IN THE BUSINESS:

Sonor Drums
Remo Drum Heads
Vic Firth Sticks
Audix Microphones
The Kelly Shu

  • I hate to appear as if I'm giving advice to an accomplished drummer so please take this more as an opinion: have you transcribed Cobb's comping from the original? He compliments the music in a beautiful way with a quarter of the notes. Sometimes less is more. I can appreciate if you were just using the track to practise your swing/3 chops, if so ignore this comment.

  • @johanisu My friend!! PLEASE! Constructive critiscism is ALWAYS welcomed with open arms! I have not transcribed Cobb's comping from the original. My goal here was not to play like Cobb. In the setting of a live band, ABSOLUTELY, I would have played much less. But this IS a backing track. Its purpose allows you to be able to play/practice YOUR OWN IDEAS. MY advise to YOU is to BUY THE TRACK from Bobby! Then you can play like COBB or Elvin or Gadd OR, maybe even play it the way YOU feel it!

  • Hey Fran. How can one get in touch with you? I've tried unsuccessfully sending you a message to your YouTube mailbox. I never get a response.

  • @ShelterDogs So sorry!! Go to my website and email me. cidrumming . com

  • I love your drumming style in this vid... wish I could find a drummer my age that played with your feel lol

  • The bass player is gettin' it!

  • It's amazing! I wanna be like you when I grow up. HAHA :D

  • Great touch! Been enjoying jamming with you on Bobbys tracks.

  • it's pretty entertaining to play along with your video!great drumming!

  • As a "traditional Jazz cat" I have to say this was great! Enjoy most of your videos. Nice selection of music, good recording, and excellent drumming. The toms sound a little bubbly/rounded for this type of music, I prefer them edgier, but that's probably just a personal preference.

  • is that the pre-aged ride? Nice touch on the snare too! Great dynamics!
