Finding a suitable donor is not easy. As of September 2009, there were 103,456 people in the United States on the waiting list for an organ transplant, with 81,150 of these waiting for a kidney. The wait list for an organ can be years long.

Organ recipients receive an enormous amount of time and money to keep them alive for the rest of their life. It's painful and difficult and I'm not sure it's the best use of ORs: extending the lives of rich sick people. One liver stolen from some poor East European peasant (see Fora TV's documentary) and put into a rich patient VS a dozen babies born safely, or three dozen cleft palates fixed or....
