@allfitch84 I will agree he has the songwriting ability that a lot of guitar players lack. At least in the commercial top 40 radio realm. There is no denying he sells a lot of albums. I just dont thing he'll be up with those legends because his playing isnt that groundbreaking. Hes like a significantly less powerful Stevie Ray. His songwriting compensates for that, but purely as a guitar player, any studio player can play like him. They just not pop stars.

those hits stereotype him in the blues & straight up guitar player categories. prly why he's not mentioned. he's only 32. Joe is great, & I'd love to see John & Joe on the same stage, would be AWESOME. I can't say anything about Jack White cuz I've not really seen him play. John & Joe will eventually be thought of as top 5 or 10 guitarists ever. It's a matter of time til people recognize how great Mayer really is & get over the personal hang ups they have. Let's not forget the songwriting aspect

@oheyy...hahaha, not even close....Just cuz he soooo cocky that he got SRV tattooed on his arm? The blues community doesn't even recognize him. Search for the best blues guitar players....no mention of Mayer. Check out Joe Bonamassa to see someone more comparable to SRV (even he isn't that close). Jack White is even better Mayer. John can play, but so can a lot of people. He just has more pop hits so people pay attention.
