When I first got the PSP and played a UMD game such as God of War: Ghost of Sparta, the screen "Do you want to quit the game?" would pop up incessantly. Sometimes every few seconds. It is the equivalent of you pressing the "Home" button on the PSP except you're not pressing anything.

If you search Google or YouTube, you'll see people cite various reasons why this is happening from the Home button getting stuck, to firmware issues, to UMD damage. But, thanks to a comment I found on another YouTube video, I realized my problem was the PSP not properly reading the UMD - it was a mechanical issue that can be easily fixed without any tools.

If you open the UMD tray, you'll notice there are four metal prongs. These prongs press the UMD disc up against the reader. I guess from the factory, these prongs aren't very "springy" (for the lack of a better word) and do not add enough tension to the UMD disc. If you carefully pull the prongs out, it will add the needed tension to keep the UMD disc from moving around (any slight movement will make it skip, resulting in the "Do you want to quit the game?" screen.

Hope this helps!

  • That fixed it! I was thinking I was going to need to just buy a new PSP after the fiftieth time that the screen popped up and I accidentally clicked "Yes" to quitting the game. Thanks man, I wish there was something we could do more than just liking the video to show appreciation. You saved me buying a new PSP.

  • I actually thought of this, and it does not work for me. works for a short time, then i start getting the message every few seconds again >.<
