Todd Duncan, 1903 - 1998, was an African American who created the roles of Porgy in Porgy and Bess and Stephen Kumalo in Lost in the Stars.

This is a clip of him singing the title song from Kurt Weill's Lost in the Stars.

  • @Juliaflo I totally second........all the way to millionth thtat. Why can't music be like this today?

  • @falkie2007 I love the music of Weill, Brecht and Lotte. Weill has received many well deserved accolades. In my opinion the work Brecht made with him deserves a much wider audience.

  • @falkie2007 I love STREET SCENE all the songs are great!!!!! that is my favorite operetta!!!!! saw it on bravo tv compltete in english 1997 (c) 1995. to think that the houston opera had to go to germany to get it produced and videotaped. ROGHARM

  • One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever! When it's done as it should, it raises goosebumps. Thanks for this.

  • What a beautiful voice! I've never heard of Mr. Duncan before. A friend sent me a link as a possible song for our group to hear. I'm so glad he did!

  • You do not need to be biased- this is the greatest song every written - it is that simple - it has been with me for 35yrs - your uncle was best and your aunts rendittion from the soul Adrian

  • Lucky you!

Kurt Weill was one of the most intellectual composers in the Western World.
