In the second version of my Tech Demo I've added a few more abilities and some more RPG-esque functionality ala Heroes/Inventory/Items. There currently isn't a decent Item "Treasure" type model so I've settled for a small version of the Robo Bay. Also with the Ether Spike the lack of Terrain Deformation options stops the ability from looking the best it can.

Version 2 of the SC2 Tech Demo includes:

- Basic Hero and Inventory System
- Leaderboard with a "filling" Progress Bar
- Jumping (Spacebar)
- Custom Hero Ability: "Stratosphere"
- Custom Hero Ability: "Sanctum"
- Custom Hero Ability: "Ether Spike"

And everything from V1 with some improvements:
- Smooth WASD Movement
- Togglable 3rd Person / RTS Camera Perspectives
- Custom Offensive Ability "Burst Strike" with different camera perspectives
- Interactive Dialog Panels controlling cameras and basic weapon damage.
- "Underground" Demo

Some of what's coming in V3:

- Strafing & Camera control for 3rd Person View
- A more roubust Hero and Inventory System
- More Items
- More custom abilities

  • Wouldn't your abilities be better if they were done in the data editor instead of triggers? I'm under the impression that triggers cause massive lag spikes online.

  • @smithjustinn It is SO much more work to pull of what I have done here in the data editor. Even if the trigger were a bit less efficient (it isn't) it would still be worth it purely because of how much time the map developer will save. I'm sure newcomers to the editor will take to the Data Editor for the majority of this type of stuff but all the WC3 editor veterans (like myself) will try to keep as much stuff in the trigger editor as possible.

  • Awesome jobs! I got a few questions.

    1.Did you make the Hybred multimedia starting small video alone or did you take it somewhere?

    2.How are you so good at map making, UI, trigers so fast after the GE release?

  • @mnadeau1992 1] I made it myself.

    2] I had been modding in Warcraft 3 for over 5 years. The SC2 Editor is just a beefier version.

  • Actually there is now retain deformation, just watched a video here showing it,

  • @lukeyawesome Keep annotations on next time. You'd see a big annotation saying that I know that there's deformation.

  • where do u find the galaxy editor does it still include in demo?

  • I want to have a winning condition be a unit entering a region. Unfortunately in starcraft 2.. i cannot seem to specify which. I would like player 1 to bring an scv into region1. This was so easy in starcraft 1! What do i do?

    data editor is more efficient than the trigger editor. He is right, if the ability is reoccuring it can cause unreasonable lag.

  • Hi, i have a HUGE question. How do you make 2 maps, but they are all into one level? Like in the campaign some missions had you play on one map then it loaded into another map, you get me? I am wondering how to do that. Please answer, thanks. :D

  • I've got a progress bar dialog item in a dialog (not a leaderboard) and I don't know how to fill it. The only function I can find that does anything similar is for leaderboard progress bars. :S

  • also i just meant like the third person view and the lvling up and stuff not you ability's
