Here is an exchange which shows how Ron Paul is different from the rest of the Republican candidates when it comes to foreign policy. Some Republicans regard this to be a weakness, but his supporters likely believe this to be a strength.

If Paul loses, it remains to be seen whether the eventual winner would be able to overlook such an opposing viewpoint, enough to choose him as a running mate.

  • By far the best answer of the night. The others stand out like a sore thumb, insisting aggressive takeover, and freaking assassinations are going to help things. No, it'll just make us look bad when their civilians accidentally get killed in the process. The only way to influence is by having open trade and diplomacy. Countries all over the world take America's lead..

  • Paul is right on this. Why is Cuba anymore different than other communist nations? Like he said, we were able to negotiate with China and the Soviets and stimulate trade agreements with them. The reason people don't want to drop the embargo is because the Castros are still in power. Its not about trade, political morality or the Cuban people, its just we've had the same "bad guy" in charge over there for half a century and people like Gingrich are still grasping to their Cold War ideologies.

  • why is this old guy making so much sense, you would think that old people would talk about the good'ol days and be out of touch. very impressed by this guy,too bad he makes too much sense to put him as president.

  • Enacted by the Bush team in 2001 this cash-up-front policy has kept the U.S. taxpayer among the few in the world not screwed and tattooed by Fidel Castro.

  • Humberto Fontova: History Lesson For Candidate Ron Paul

  • Ground Control to candidate Paul: For over a decade, the so-called U.S. embargo has merely stipulated that Castro’s Stalinist regime pay cash up front through a third–party bank for all U.S. agricultural products; no Ex-Im (U.S. taxpayer) financing of such sales. (You’d really, really think a libertarian would approve of this.)

  • Ron Paul, in an exasperated tone during the Iowa debates, said: “All these trade sanctions!…This is why we still don’t have a trade relationship with Cuba.”

Furthermore, the U.S. has been Castro-controlled Cuba’s biggest donor of humanitarian aid, including medicine and medical supplies, for decades.

  • don't cut off the applause at teh end!

  • Thank you Ron Paul!!

  • it's pretty clear to me. things are going to get really fucking scary if Ron Paul isn't elected! old rich fuckers can act like the soldiers don't mean shit. we'll see come election day. the troops have spoken! "We The People" have spoken. class warfare is upon us. ONE

  • Ron Paul. Strong on national defense. Weak on first-strikes, overthrowing governments, installing foreign dictators, giving billions to our enemies, and intentionally imploding our own economy.
