In Detroit Metro areas, like many other districts in Michigan, the teachers are expected to do more while receiving less. Teachers have to constantly purchase supplies, deal with lack of space in the classrooms, and have a lack of educational support. One of the fourth grade teachers interviewed strongly implied that "There is very little funding and not much help. Because of the funding cuts from the state, the district is really in financial trouble. The funding is also not allocated in the most efficient manner. Teacher morale is very low, there is no funding for supplies, much less support for struggling kids" (Personal Communication, March 2011). Ever since Rick Snyder became governor of Michigan, it has stirred up emotions and issues were brought to attention. Christoff (2011) stated that "Michigan's largest teachers union is stirring up possible teacher strikes -- perhaps a statewide strike -- to protest what the union calls attacks by Gov. Rick Snyder and the Republican-led Legislature on unions, school funding and middle-class taxpayers" (para. 1). Generally all teachers are angry and disagree with Snyder's actions. The administration, along with the government and the teachers, do not agree on the quality of education and one cannot expect results and success from teachers while simultaneously taking away power and respect.
