DENISE FORD, was first elected to represent the 4th Legislative District after an upset victory in 2003 and was re-elected in 2005 and again in 2007. The 4th District includes the City of Long Beach, Lido Beach, Atlantic Beach, Point Lookout and parts of Oceanside and Island Park.
Legislator Ford currently serves on the Finance Committee, Health Committee, the Environment Committee, the Towns, Villages and Cities Committee, the Planning and Development Committee and is a ranking member of the Public Safety Committee.
Legislator Ford was raised in a family dedicated to public service. Her father was a retired member of the New York City Police Department and her mother worked for many years with the United States Customs Department. She is the proud mother of three wonderful children, Janna OBrien who is a graduate Hofstra University and is teaching special ed. in Long Beach Middle School, Harry, a senior at Kellenberg Memorial High School, and Gerard, now a junior who is also attending Kellenberg. Legislator Ford and her family have had to cope with enormous tragedy, Ms. Fords husband, Harry, a decorated; 27 year veteran of the New York City Fire Department was killed along with two of his fellow firefighters at a fire in Queens on Fathers Day 2001. Legislator Fords story has turned from one of tragedy to one of strength and inspiration.
