Mom panics, baby survives when train hits stroller that rolled onto tracks in Australia
MELBOURNE, Australia October 16, 2009 (AP)
A 6-month-old baby has miraculously survived a train hitting his stroller, which rolled onto the tracks when his mother let go for an instant.

The escape was captured on security camera footage that shows the red, three-wheeled stroller plunging off a station platform just as the commuter train pulls in, and the mother's panicked lunge to grab it.

The train pushed the stroller about 130 feet (40 meters) along the tracks before it stopped, but it did not go under the train.

The baby, who was strapped into the stroller, received only a bump on the head.

Police said they released the video, which was captured last Thursday at a suburban station in the southern city of Melbourne, to underscore the need for people to be extra safety conscious when using the train system.

The dramatic footage led news bulletins across Australia and was shown internationally.

Very lucky indeed. Poor woman must have almost died on the spot when the train rolled over the pram. It is a Miricle though.

seriously... that's fucking instinct. I think it is a lot of her fault because I take care of my nieces and nephews a lot and I have pulled up my pants. Always with 1 hand on stroller. Maybe not a bad (morally) mother, but I'm sorry, she tried and failed to do something. When their is a life at risk, trying is not an option. Your child has 1 life and 1 mistake can screw it all up.

As far as more safety measures, I would suggest maybe placing some railing between the tracks and the platform to prevent accidents like this from occurring. Just a suggestion
