  • Sorry I just reread that and saw how poorly written it was (apologize I was multi-tasking), but hopefully you get my point. Furthermore, coercive power is the worst form of motivation. I just think this lecture just makes it seem like firing people is a better way to increase performance than motivating employees. Just my two cents.

  • I like parts of this lecture, but I think there are some serious flaws. There's a lot more to why you don't fire people than you feel bad for them. The way society is today, there may be legal reasons, or fear of unemployment costs. The burden of proof is on the employer, not the employee. In other words, in many cases it is unreasonable on the employer the steps necessary to cleanly firing someone. I understand part of this is progressive discipline and a thorough policy manual, but still.
