oooops, typos...meant 'protected by her great talent'.

So this was writtne after she slept with her new manager....who propelled her away from Vanguard to greater heights in her career? I thought only the Hollywood babes did this sort of thing. Guess Joan was not a special issue, protected by her great from having to sell out.

What a nice voz, like Johnny Walker, keep walking Joan Baez!!!!

This is prolly my favorite original song by Joanie. Kudos for posting.

The best song for drinking Bustello coffee, black, no cream; alone first thing in the morning. Thanks Joan.

I guess I understand the discussion about whether the original recording or this (or any other version) is better. But the bottom line is that this incredible lady's voice, character and soul are incomparable. I weep, or nearly weep, whenever I hear any of her recordings. I weep for joy, I weep for sorrow and lost love, I weep for the oppressed. There is probably no artist living or dead who can move me the way she does. Sublime. An international treasure.

If you read her autobiography she talks about being something of a "wolf" and how and why she stopped. But it still is both a sad, and profoundly honest song. Sometimes we find refuge with strangers, after all. Sometimes we want someone that knows nothing of who we are, but simply want us, and then sometimes it's hard to let that stranger go.

Wow..this is gorgeous and as many have said below better than the original. It's sooo depressing though as she really reached deep.

@frenchfilmbug2 yes, she has lost her youthful, pretty voice, but she still is beautiful inside and out.

Thank you very much for posting it. I didn't know this late version which sounds more peacefull but sadder than the first I have on "Come from the shadow" LP which is accordind to me one of her most beautiful album with "Blessed are", "From every srage" and "Where are you now my son?". Has it been recorded in 1992? or later on?

The song comes from a re-issue of Joan`s "RING THEM BELLS" . It`s now a 2 disc CD now. Joan has added songs that were recored in 1995, mostly in duets with others. Take care!
