"It's beautiful," Joe said, staring out the window.

"Almost there," Mike said as they started to descend onto the runway. Five minutes later they were in the terminal. "Time for school!" Mike said.

"SCHOOL?!" Joe said, stretching. "Really? Can't I just skip today, I mean I all ready know what theyre teaching."

"I think he should at least see the house before we take him to school," Mrs. Jonas said.

"Take me to school?! Mom, I'm 19, I dont need my mommy to take me to school."

"Joe, nobody in this town drives to school except the teachers. They either walk or take the bus."

Joe felt his face lose color. "Really? Where the hey are we, the Yukon?!"

"They don't have cars there either," Mike said, starting the car that had met them at the airport.

Joe sighed as he got into the car. "What time does school start anyway?"

Mike looked at his watch. "Not for another hour."

Joe let his head rest against the window. "Oh boy."

Ten minutes later they arrived at their new house. It was a one-story brick house with an American Flag hanging just outside the doorway. "OH! How.....quaint," Mrs. Jonas said, getting out of the car.

"Oh my gosh," Joe said, staring at the house. "It looks like a house for elves! It probably only has one bedroom."

"3 actually," Mike said, grabbing the suitcases out of the trunk. "All your furniture is all ready in there, and everything should be set up for you. I'm just going to go over a few more things with your parents while you're at school, Joe, and then you guys will only hear from me once a week."

Joe looked around the backyard and to the yard of the house next door. Little kid toys filled the yard, with grass growing out of them, like somebody had just mowed around them. "Great," Joe murmured, walking into the house.

The first thing that hit Joe was the smell. "Oh goodness, what is that?" he asked, crinkling his nose.

"THAT, Mike said, putting down the suitcases, "Is the smell of a fresh start."

"It smells like rotting wood and something dead," Joe said, covering his nose.

"Take your suitcase to your room, Joseph," Mrs. Jonas said, sitting down in an easy-chair. "And then you need to get off to school."

Joe grumbled as he lugged his suitcase down the hall to his room. He gasped as he opened the door. Yellow-flowered wallpaper lined the walls, curtains with sunflowers and a bedspread with a large sunflower on it were also within eyesight. "MOM!"

"We'll get you new stuff later, just please go to school!" Mrs. Jonas yelled back.

Joe stopped himself from yelling back. His parents were all ready making a big sacrifice for him, having to pick up and move far away from what they were used to just because he made a mistake. Joe sighed as he took one last look around the room and walked out. He stopped at the living room doorway. "Okay, I'm going now."

His parents smiled at him. "Good luck, Joseph. Have a good first day," Mrs. Jonas said.

"Here's a pen," Mike said, tossing it to him. "All your papers are all ready in order. Here's your class list, and a map of the school, and a map of the neighborhood so you can FIND the school. Good luck."

Joe began looking over the papers as he opened the door and started to step out. CRUNCH!

"NO!!!!!!"

Joe quickly looked up. "Wha-what?" He stumbled as something was pulled out from under his foot. He looked down and saw another boy holding a large remote control car in his hands.

"HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?!" the boy said, practically sobbing. "I JUST BUILT THIS!"

"I'm.....sorry," Joe said. "I was just looking over some stuff before I get to school today. I'm new. My name is Joe....Johnson."

The boy gave him a wary look as he stood up and Joe held out his hand. "Uh....hi," the boy said.

"What's your name?"

"David," the boy said cautiously, backing towards his house.

Joe moved towards him. "Oh, so you live next door? And like....remote control cars?!"

"Yep, gotta go!" David said quickly, scrambling back into his house.

Joe just watched him go. "Strange." He looked down at the map Mike had given him and saw that all he needed to do was continue down his street for a few minutes, and then make a right turn, and the school would be right there.

"HEY WAIT!" he heard. Joe quickly turned and saw David running after him, his backpack almost flying away from him.

"What?" Joe asked.

"Well, SINCE you decided to RUIN my remote control car, I figured walking me to school and stopping the bullies from getting me was the least you could do."

"Oh really?" Joe asked, rolling his eyes. They continued walking. "Dude, you're like, 6 feet tall with some muscles on you, WHY do you need protecting?"

"Because......because they think I'm a nerd...."

"The glasses DO make you seem nerdy," Joe interrupted.

"AND I dont believe in violence, so they feel free to practice their bullying on me."
