My old honky-tonk piano, treated to sound like Russ Conway's recording piano, and used for Russ's arrangement of "Rule, Britannia!". This is me playing 15 years ago when I was 50. It has been all downhill since...

  • Where and how did you learn this? It would be good to learn i believe. You are amazing

  • @TrentHeatonPianist Thank you! It's great fun to play, and a good party piece. Sheet music of this arrangement was published in about 1960, when Russ Conway's version of it had been used for a television series and then recorded by EMI (flip side of 'Royal Event', released on Prince Andrew's birthday). The best place to look for it is eBay, as Russ's sheet music comes up from time to time. Best of luck! Mike

  • Just about as close to the original as anyone is going to get Mike - superb job.

  • @IVORIESMAN Thanks for your supportive comment. I doubt whether anyone is going to bother nowadays trying to copy the original - it's left to anoraks like myself to be obsessed with recapturing that 1960 sound!

  • Hi Mike. The injections must be wearing off... you've just aged 10 years!

Just 'Side Saddle' to go then, unless Lynne has sabotaged the tape.

Very nicely played - that really was a lovely sounding piano. Cheers Mark

  • @MarcusTomatos Thanks, Mark, for all your, er, kind remarks. The "Side Saddle" recording is still hidden away and safe from saboteurs, but the sound is slightly out of synch with the video, so I'll have to remedy that. Too bad you didn't hear that old pianna before i disposed of it. However, one of our mutual friends has a honky-tonk pianna in his garage, and I hope to see it sometime soon. Cheers, Mike

  • I love how you keep smiling at the camera, makes you look like your playing for fun more than anything else. You play absolutely brilliantly (I keep putting this and a few others by you on repeat). Best wishes for 2012, and keep up the beautiful playing. Kudos to you!

  • 1.18 - 27 is astonishing ..striding with the left hand and looking totally relaxed! hope Santa brings you a de-tuned honky tonk for Christmas Mike ...more of that please!

  • Wow, you are very talented!!

  • @honkytonkpiano You are far too modest Mike - thank goodness there are people like you around who are still passionate about this great music.

  • No insult intended Mike, you always look as good as you sound. Best of luck with the synch problem. Regards Mark
